CLEVELAND, Ohio — Bocce and a rock ‘n’ roll don’t have much in common. But this week they share the honor of being themes explored in first-run films featured in local virtual screening rooms.

Staring Friday, the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Cinematheque presents director Julio Vincent Gambuto’s new film “Team Marco.” The delightful family comedy finds a 12-year-old boy obsessed with video games leaving behind his game system for the newly-discovered game of bocce.

Also on Friday, both The Cleveland Institute of Art’s Cinematheque and Cleveland Cinemas (Cedar Lee, the Capitol and Chagrin Cinemas) are streaming “Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man.”

The documentary tells the story of how when the great rock ‘n’ roll pianist isn’t touring the globe with The Rolling Stones and other high-profile musicians, Leavell — a former U.S. Tree Farmer of the Year — can be found in the woods promoting environmental forestry.

The film features Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and Dickey Betts.

Virtual screening rooms continue to offer movie lovers a safe way to view first-run films online during a pandemic.

Half the proceeds from the virtual films go back to the local theater. Costs vary for each film, which are accessible for either 48 or 72 hours.
