‘The Mouse That Rocked’ Stanley Mouse Tribute Album To Feature Chuck Leavell, Leftover Salmon, More
Though he never recorded an album or headlined a festival, visual artist Stanley Mouse was as integral to the 1960s counterculture as any band or musician. His trademark iconography adorned concert posters at seminal San Francisco venues The Fillmore and the Avalon, album covers by the Grateful Dead and Journey, and became the backdrop to the psychedelic revolution. Now, Blue Rose Music will put Stanley back on the cover for The Mouse That Rocked, a compilation featuring covers of artists Stanley worked with performed by today’s musicians.
Among the top contributors to The Mouse That Rocked are Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones), Leftover Salmon, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (ALO), Charlie Musselwhite, Nicole Atkins, Jason Crosby, The Mother Hips, and more. These artists will cover legendary acts who utilized Stanley’s work including the Grateful Dead, NRPS, Journey, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Cream, and more.
“Through the years, my connection with Stanley Mouse has revealed the incredible depth of his artistry—from the early hot rod monster T-shirt era, to the enchanting psychedelic San Francisco ballroom posters, and ultimately to the era of mega-selling album covers,” album producer David Gross said. “Continuing the tradition from posters, his creativity now extends into timeless & contemporary oil paintings. Stanley Mouse’s journey is a captivating evolution, showcasing a remarkable breadth of work that spans various artistic realms with enduring brilliance.”
