Georgia’s favorite son will be honored at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on September 17.

A celebration of music-loving former president Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday will take place at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on September 17. The all-star lineup for “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” is topped by Maren MorrisEric ChurchChuck Leavell and Drive-By Truckers.

D-NiceGrouploveThe War and Treaty and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus will also perform at “Jimmy Carter 100.” Special appearances will be made by Killer Mike, actor Sean Penn and Atlanta Braves great Dale Murphy. Legendary musician Rickey Minor will serve as the musical director with additional artists and presenters to be announced.

Jimmy Carter is expected to turn 100 on October 1, 2024. Carter, who is already the oldest surviving president, served from 1977 to 1981. The Plains, Georgia native forged lasting friendships with several musicians including The Allman Brothers Band, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. The Allman Brothers Band helped Carter get elected in 1976.

Jimmy Carter had a deep love for music from many genres and brought artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins to perform at the White House Jazz Festival in 1978. “Whether it was on his record player, on the campaign trail, or on the White House lawn, music has been – and continues to be – a source of joy, comfort, and inspiration for my grandfather,” said Jason Carter, President Carter’s grandson and chair of the Carter Center Board of Trustees in a press release. “I can think of no better way to celebrate him and his 100th birthday than a night of music.”

Tickets go on sale on Monday, August 5 at 10 a.m. ET. Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song tickets can be purchased via the Fox Theatre website. Proceeds will go towards The Carter Center and its mission of “continuing Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s work to promote peace and improve health around the world.”
